Our approach to reporting

We have reported our Corporate Responsibility (CR) performance since 2005. We continue to develop and refine our approach to reporting to ensure that we address and respond to issues important to our business and our stakeholders.

We also update our stakeholders on the management and progress of our CR priorities through interim CR reporting, interim and annual financial reporting and our monthly CR update.

Group CR Review
The Group's Corporate Responsibility Review  is structured around analysis and contextualisation of the material issues facing our business for the year ending 30 September. We commenced ‘integrated reporting’ of our financial and non-financial reporting in 2010, which we refer to as ANZ’s Shareholder and Corporate Responsibility Review. Our Review covers our global operations and includes statements from our CEO and Chairman as well as a summary of performance against CR targets.
Regular CR reports and updates

CR interim reports

Our interim reports provide an update on our response to recent issues and challenges, and our current performance against our CR targets.

CR monthly e-bulletin

Our stakeholders are kept up-to-date with CR news and progress by subscribing to monthly CR e-bulletins. Approximately 5,400 stakeholders, including government, regulators, customers, community groups, suppliers, investors and ANZ employees, receive updates providing information about how we are progressing against our CR targets and commitments, as well as information about other initiatives and issues.

Corporate Responsibility website

Our Corporate Responsibility website provides our stakeholders with an understanding about the ways in which our Corporate Responsibility framework is embedded into our everyday business practices. Online reporting is an effective way to address the growing amount of information required by stakeholders and reporting frameworks such as the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and the UN Global Compact. It also reduces our impact on the environment by minimising print requirements.

Our most recent and past performance can be found in the ‘Performance and Reporting’ section of our website. We also communicate business-specific activity and progress in each section of our website. This information is related to the most recent financial year, ending 30 September, and covers our global operations unless otherwise stated. It is also subject to independent assurance from our external provider Corporate Citizenship.

Interim and annual financial reports

Progress against our CR framework and priorities is reported to shareholders through our interim and annual financial reports. Presentations at our interim results announcements and annual general meetings also cover key CR topics.

ANZ reporting frameworks

Global Reporting Initiative (GRI)

We are an organisational member of the GRI, and have been applying the GRI Sustainability Reporting Guidelines since 2006. The guidelines provide a framework for reporting on an organisation's economic, environmental and social performance. We continue to report to an A+ level.

London Benchmarking Group

We use the London Benchmarking Group (LBG) framework for measuring and reporting community contributions and achievements. The LBG model encourages greater accountability and is recognised as best practice in reporting on corporate community investment.

UN Global Compact

We became a signatory to the UN Global Compact in 2010. Each year we complete a “Communication on Progress” which details our approach to performance against the Compact’s ten principles in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption.

Reporting scope and boundaries

Our CR reporting (CR website and Integrated Annual Review) covers our global operations unless otherwise stated.

Joint venture partnerships are not covered by our CR reporting unless otherwise stated.

Data measurement is managed centrally by Group Corporate Affairs. Techniques for measuring the progress against targets are reviewed by our assurance providers and published each year. Definitions of the terms used in our CR reporting, including data measurement techniques, are provided in Corporate Responsibility Definitions (PDF 55kB).
