What is “We Select”?
When you’re young, taking on more investment risk for a potentially higher return can make sense as you have a longer time to ride out market ups and downs. Later in life as you move towards and into retirement your attitude to risk may change, with the focus shifting towards capital security and income.
“We Select” investment options comprise of an allocation to growth assets (Australian shares, international shares, Australian and global property securities) and defensive assets (Australian and global fixed interest and cash) that adjust automatically as you get older.
Additionally, an active asset allocation process may be utilised to increase or decrease your exposure to relevant asset classes within permitted ranges. This process is designed to optimise your investment performance by adjusting allocations to markets/asset classes which we believe will perform strongly or poorly in the future. The exposure to a broad range of asset classes is designed to diversify investment risk.
You can also hold a portion of your account balance in ANZ Smart Choice – Cash

The above is an indication of the benchmark allocation to each asset class. The allocations may move between the ranges as detailed in the ANZ Smart Choice Super and Pension Additional Information Guide.
If you choose the “We Select” investment category at the time of opening your account your money will be invested in the appropriate “We Select” option for you based on the decade you were born. If you were not born in one of the decades for which we offer the “We Select” investment options you will only be able to choose from the “Self Select” investment options.
You only have one decision to make and the investment option will do the rest, formulating and managing the mix according to your time horizon towards and into retirement.
